The summer concert is over. The third-years who held everything together walk off stage, and suddenly the orchestra belongs to the second-years. Easy, right? Not even close. Replacing the people who set the tone turns out to be a lot harder than anyone expected, and every new leader hears the music differently. So what you get isn't one melody. It's scattered notes, clashing ideas, rehearsals that leave more questions than answers. Trust starts to crack. Discipline slips. Bows hit strings and tempers flare just as often. The national competition is coming, and all they have behind them is a summer of practice that didn't quite add up to anything yet. Somewhere in that mess, though, the real work begins. Not playing together perfectly, but actually listening to each other. As people with something to say, not just musicians hitting the right notes. Can a group that can't agree on how it should sound ever become an orchestra worth hearing?
