Hajime Aono used to play violin like he was born holding one. His father was a famous violinist, and the kid worshiped him, practicing until his fingers ached. Then a scandal hit. Reporters camped outside their home, his parents split, and the instrument that had been his whole world turned into something he could not even stand to look at. He put it away for good. Years later, he is in his last year of middle school, living with his mother, no plan for the future. One afternoon he hears a classmate, Ritsuko Akine, scraping through a piece on her violin. She is loud, stubborn, and terrible, and she keeps going anyway. Something in him cracks open. He starts coaching her, maybe to shut her up, maybe because he misses the sound. That help turns into a plan: get into Umimaku High and its orchestra. But the entrance exam is brutal, and the old fear is still sitting on his shoulder. Can a girl who can barely hold a bow drag him back to the stage he swore he would never touch again?
