Aldnoah.Zero
They found a gate on the Moon. It led to Mars. The people who walked through it dug up a technology they called Aldnoah, and it made them believe they were gods among ordinary men. So they built the Vers Empire, crowned themselves a superior race, and looked down on everyone left on Earth as barbarians who did not deserve to breathe the same air. War followed. The gate blew up in 1999, and it took the Moon with it. Chunks of it rained down on the planet, millions died, and both sides agreed to stop shooting, mostly because there was nothing left to shoot at. The Martians moved into orbital stations scattered through the debris field and waited. Fifteen years later, Princess Asseylum comes down to Earth to talk peace. Inaho Kaizuka, a high school kid, happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and sees her get shot. The fragile calm falls apart in minutes. The ceasefire is dead. Martian knights are already dropping toward Earth with Aldnoah-powered machines nobody on the ground can touch, and Inaho is suddenly standing on the front line with a handful of classmates and no plan worth the name. He is not a soldier. That is kind of the point. Can a boy with a sharp eye and a school uniform really change what happens next, or is he just the first one the war will swallow?
