The heat in Kyoto that August was brutal, the kind that soaks your shirt the second you step out of the bath. All the guy wanted was to flop down in his four and a half tatami room and let the air conditioner do its thing. Then Ozu happened. A soda tipped over, the remote drowned in sticky fizz, and just like that, the one good thing in his life was gone. Clothes glued to skin, brain melting by noon, zero will to study or chase girls. Another summer down the drain. Except the next day everyone ends up back at the dorm for their own reasons, and Masaki, rummaging around and knocking something loose in the cluttered storage room, stumbles onto a tatami mat with a seat in the middle and a control panel sticking out of it. A genuine time machine, sitting right there under the junk. So the plan is simple: go back, grab the remote before Ozu can wreck it, come home, bask in the cold air. Simple. What they find on the other side is something nobody could have braced for. And when you change one tiny thing in the past, how do you know what else quietly changes with it?
