Japan broke apart after the Great Tokyo War. Ten years on, it is not one country anymore but ten squabbling states, each run by a gang and its Best, a self-proclaimed prophet who can level a city block with one swing. Nozomi is nobody special. A Rest, a rookie, a normal girl who just joined up, and all she wants is to stand beside Masami, her childhood friend and the Best of their crew. Then Masami goes down hard. Too hurt to fight, too hurt to lead, and requests from all over Japan keep piling up at her door. So Nozomi does the stupid, obvious thing: she gets on a motorcycle and goes to answer them herself. Her new traveling companions are a shy girl who gets lost in her own neighborhood, a cheerful one who never stops eating, and a quiet one in a gas mask who says almost nothing and knows more than she lets on. Four girls on loud bikes, riding straight into other people's turf wars, border scraps, and something that smells a lot like a conspiracy. Can Japan ever be one country again, and what are four small-timers on motorcycles supposed to do about it?
