A fuzzy youkai put Hanae Ashiya in a hospital bed at the start of the school year. The fix came from a guy named Haruitsuki Abeno, who owns a tiny tea room and charges for his help. Reasonable rates, he said. Now Hanae owes him a debt he can barely see the end of. So he works it off, ferrying spirits back to the Underworld. His ability to talk to youkai has turned into something like responsibility, and honestly, he has started to like the job. Then word gets around that a human is on the Mononokean payroll. Not everybody likes that. A routine trip downstairs puts him in front of people with real power, and some youkai have no intention of playing along with Abeno's arrangements. His life had just settled down. That is usually when things fall apart. Who exactly noticed him in the Underworld, and what do they want from a broke high schooler with a talent for talking to monsters?
