Two countries are at war, and one of them has a dragon. Not a metaphor, an actual ancient beast bound by a pact to defend the nation, big enough to wipe out a battlefield in one pass. There is just one problem. Cavities. A toothache can ground a creature like that, so an entire unit exists to keep its teeth clean: the dragon dentists. Nonoko Kishii survived the recruitment that killed everyone else, because joining means seeing exactly how you die and agreeing to it anyway. Then she finds a man unconscious on one of the dragon's teeth. He says his name is Bel, he is an enemy officer, and his own men shot him before the dragon's teeth brought him back. A resurrection like that is supposed to herald disaster. Naturally, he gets assigned to her as a trainee. The fighting outside keeps getting worse, and Bel has to figure out whether he can live the way these dentists do, doing careful work while knowing precisely how it ends. Nonoko watches him, and the legend about what his return means sits there unspoken. Is he really the disaster everyone is waiting for, or the only one who can help them survive it?
