Yoshika Miyafuji heads home to Fusou after the fighting in Romagna, and for the first time in a long while the sky is quiet. Her magic is gone. So is the healing touch that once pulled her squadmates back from the brink. She fills her days with textbooks instead, chasing a medical degree so she can help people without ever climbing into a Striker Unit again. Then a letter arrives from a school in Europe, and she packs her bags. It should be simple. Study, learn, stay on the ground. But the Neuroi are slipping past the defense lines now, showing up in places everyone swore were safe, and the whole balance of power on the continent starts to tilt. Shizuka Hattori, a cadet back in the Imperial Navy, is the one who carries the order that sends Yoshika abroad, and neither of them knows how bad things have gotten. Yoshika can't fly. That's the problem. Her friends are out there getting hammered, and every instinct she has says go, while her body says no. What does a girl with no magic do when the only thing she's ever been good at is the one thing she can't do anymore?
