The Neuroi came out of nowhere in 1939. Cities flattened. Armies wiped out. Nothing human-built could touch them, so the world did the only thing left: it strapped propeller-driven war machines to teenage girls with magic in their blood. The Striker Unit. A weapon that turns a kid into something close to a fighter ace, if the kid survives the training and the sky and the enemy all at once. By 1944 the fight has settled into a grind. Humanity still has a front line, barely. Yoshika Miyafuji is just a small-town girl when she signs up for the 501st Joint Fighter Wing. Everyone calls them the Strike Witches. Problem is, she has no formal training, no idea how the squad works, and the veterans around her have already lost friends to the Neuroi. So now she has to keep up with girls who fly circles around her while the aliens keep coming. Can a rookie who doesn't even know the rules earn her place in the 501st, or is the sky about to run out of defenders?
