The Neuroi came out of nowhere, and they don't negotiate. Europe and Africa have been burning for years, and by late 1944 the 501st finally cleared the skies over Gallia. That victory pushed the allied forces east, all the way to a frozen base in Petersburg, where the 502nd, the Brave Witches, get the job of hunting the aliens across the icy emptiness of Orussia. Hopes are high. The weather is not. Then a transport goes down. One of the squadron's witches is hurt badly enough that she will never fly again, and her sister Hikari steps in to take her slot. There is just one problem: Hikari has no magic worth mentioning, no special talent, nothing that makes her fit for a unit everyone is counting on. The other witches have powers, experience, and a war to win. So now she is out there in the snow, surrounded by aces who can do things she can only watch, trying to earn a place she was never meant to have. Can someone with nothing special about her survive a fight against an enemy nobody has ever beaten?
