Dragons once ruled over everyone: elves, dwarves, vampires, humans, all of them. Then the dragons vanished, and the leftovers of that old world settled down together, slowly blending in until Tokyo looked almost ordinary. Almost. A crew calling itself Nine starts tearing the city apart, killing people in the streets and chasing the miracles the dragons left behind. Seiji Nanatsuki just wanted to do normal detective work. Instead he walks into a bank robbery that turns into a hostage standoff and bumps into Shiori Ichinose from Special 7, an elite squad built to handle what regular cops cannot. He helps sort out the mess, and because of that one stubborn sense of right and wrong, he suddenly gets pulled onto the team. Turns out the job is nothing like he pictured. His new coworkers are different species, different temperaments, and every case drags him somewhere stranger. So now he chases Nine with a unit nobody outside the force quite trusts, and the city keeps handing him crimes with no clean answers. Can a rookie who still believes in justice hold onto it when the people he is hunting have stopped believing in anything at all?
