A comet that only shows up once every thousand years is about to cross the sky, and word is it grants whatever you wish for while you watch. Max and his friends figure they might as well catch the Millennium Festival while they are at it. Then a stage magician called Butler pulls a trick that is not a trick at all. There is a cocoon in Butler's act. Max hears a voice coming out of it, and a small creature named Jirachi wakes up and picks him as a friend. Great, except Jirachi only stays awake for the handful of days the comet hangs overhead. Max wants every minute he can get. Butler wants something too: he plans to use Jirachi's power to bring Groudon back to life, and he is not asking nicely. So the countdown is on. Ash, May, Brock and Max have to get Jirachi away from a man who treats a child's friend like a battery. What happens when the comet finally leaves and the wishes stop working?
