Melphiera spends her days in the kitchen, figuring out which monster tastes best and how to cook it so nobody drops dead. The habit started with her late mother, and it might just keep her family's lands fed when harvests fail. There is only one problem: everyone knows monster meat is poison. So the nobles whisper, call her the Voracious Villainess, and leave her alone at parties. Then a beast crashes the royal banquet, right in the middle of her husband hunt. While the guests scatter, Aristide, the crown prince's younger brother, cuts the thing down. They call him the Blood-Man Duke, and people flinch when he walks past. Melphiera doesn't flinch. She looks at the carcass and wonders what it would taste like seared. He is charmed. Enough to announce he wants to marry her. Now the two most feared oddballs in high society are courting, and the rumors have only gotten louder. Can a man nicknamed for slaughter and a woman who eats monsters ever convince the court they belong together?
