For four hundred years the Takamimi Shrine has kept a goddess in its back room: Elda, an elf pulled in from another world during the Edo period. Fifteen generations of the Koganei family have looked after her. Then Koito turns sixteen, and suddenly the job is hers. Rituals, sweeping, wedding prep, all of it. Except the goddess won't come out. Elda is a shut-in who lives for video games, anime and the snacks worshippers leave at the altar. So Koito's real task starts: dragging an immortal recluse into daylight, one outing at a time. She still has school, homework, a life. Elda has a controller and zero interest in fresh air. Somehow the two have to meet in the middle, and the neighbors keep spoiling the elf rotten along the way. Who exactly is running this shrine, the girl with the broom or the goddess with the console?
