Angelique is just trying to get through med school. Her parents died saving people, so she studies hard, keeps her head down, and dreams of the day she can do the same. All that quiet goes up in smoke the afternoon two Purifiers walk into her academy. They hunt Thanatos, the monsters suddenly swarming every corner of Arcadia, and one of them, Nyx, looks her straight in the eye and says she is the only girl alive who can fight beside them. She says no. Obviously. Then a Thanatos tears through the school. Rayne and Nyx throw everything they have at it and still end up on the ground, bleeding, while classmates drop one by one around her. That is when something inside her snaps awake, a power she never asked for, and the girl who only wanted to heal people becomes the one thing Arcadia has been waiting for: the Queen's Egg. Now every battle pulls her deeper into a war she never chose, and the boys who dragged her into it each want something different from her. What happens when the power meant to save everyone starts costing her the life she actually wanted?
