One woman holds the whole universe together. They call her the Queen, and she keeps life blooming on countless planets by borrowing the power of nine Guardians, each bound to an element. Someday she will step down. Two girls get the nod: Angelique Limoges and Rosalia de Catargena. The test sounds simple enough. Take a dead, empty planet and make something grow there, with the Guardians lending a hand. Then the catch lands. Angelique is nowhere near ready. Rosalia outclasses her at every turn, and the Guardians do not exactly rush to her side. If she wants even a slim shot, she has to win them over one by one, and that means actual relationships, not commands. Every bond she builds changes what the planet becomes. So what happens when the girl who is trailing badly starts getting close to the very powers her rival needs?
