Tong Qi has spent years perfecting one skill: pretending she knows nothing about anime. Her parents raised her on it, stuffed her childhood full of manga and late night reruns, and she has been running from that label ever since. Her desk mate Yang Wei is everything she wants to be. Bright, simple, a boy who probably thinks a convention is a business meeting. She watches him the way you watch a normal life you cannot have. Then he says the word. Anime. Out loud. From his mouth. The one person she trusted to stay clean. Now she is stuck. Her mother, who argues like a boss character, keeps dragging the whole mess into the open, and Yang Wei keeps wandering through it like he has no idea what he just stepped into. Tong Qi wanted a normal school year. Instead she got a front row seat to her own embarrassment. Can she keep pretending she is not one of them, or does the truth come out the second her mom opens the door?
