Yuusaku Godai has had enough. The other tenants of Maison Ikkoku throw loud parties, barge into his room at all hours, and he is trying to cram for college entrance exams, already a year behind. He packs his things to leave. Then he meets Kyoko, the new manager, and suddenly the old boarding house looks like a fine place to stay. There is a problem. Kyoko is a widow. Her husband died six months after the wedding, and she still holds on to his memory, convinced no one can take his place. She starts to warm to Godai anyway, though the neighbors are always in the middle of it: Yotsuya poking around, Ichinose drinking, Roppongi watching with amusement. And Godai is not the only one interested. A wealthy tennis coach named Mitaka wants Kyoko too, while two other women keep turning up wherever Godai goes. Can a broke student who cannot even pass his exams win over a woman still mourning a husband she barely had time to love?
