A Japanese girl steps off the train into London's gray morning with six months to prove she belongs. Lili Ichijouin has been told, plainly, that if she doesn't climb to the top of Saint Thomas Art Academy's ranks by spring, the paints go away and she goes home. The professors watch her like she's already gone. Her classmates see a tourist. Then a misunderstanding with Kit Church, an aristocrat's son who paints like breathing and barely speaks to anyone, turns into something neither of them planned. He thinks she's just another ambitious exchange student. She thinks he's an obstacle on her way to the top. Both are wrong. What grows between them over brushes and canvas becomes the thing everyone at the academy whispers about, and neither of them knows what to do with it. Her six months are still ticking down. His family name still stands between him and the easel. So what happens when the one person who sees your work clearly is also the one who could cost you everything?
