Monsters just show up. One day the world is normal, the next there are creatures with impossible powers standing in the middle of cities, and nobody knows where they came from or how many more are on the way. A United Nations office gets the job of watching them: the Monster Observatory, a small team trying to figure out what these things are and what they want. Then it turns out the creatures are not all the same. Every one of them is different, with its own abilities, its own territory, its own way of dealing with people. Some keep their distance. Others do not. The Observatory crew has to track them, study them, and somehow keep the peace between humans and beings that could flatten a neighborhood without trying. The job is messy, the rules keep changing, and the things they learn about the kaiju might say more about us than about them. So what happens when the next one appears somewhere no one is watching?
