The Sarugaku labs are gone. Sousuke Banba walked out of that massacre alive, and he didn't walk out empty handed: now he can wield the Kagewani's own power, the same force that turns men into monsters, and point it back at them. One problem. Every time he uses it, something inside him slips. His hands shake. His thoughts go dark and hungry. He keeps a grip on his sanity by a thread, and the thread is fraying. Then the quiet part ends. Someone at the top of Sarugaku is still pulling strings, and a woman who wants him dead for reasons that are entirely her own starts hunting him. He could stop. He doesn't. He keeps moving, chasing the origin of the creatures, cutting them down one by one, even as the thing he's using to kill them eats away at the man doing the killing. So what happens when the last monster is gone and there's still something left inside him, waiting?
