A black and white Toyota tears past a Mazda RX7 on a foggy mountain pass, and Keisuke Takahashi is sure he just saw a dead man driving. There is no ghost, of course. Just Takumi Fujiwara, half asleep at the wheel, running his father's tofu down Mount Akina before sunrise like he does every single morning. He has no idea anyone saw him. He does not care about racing at all. Keisuke cannot let it go. He brings the Akagi Red Suns to challenge the local Speed Stars, hoping the race will drag his phantom out of hiding. The Speed Stars say yes. Then they get destroyed, lap after lap, and realize the only car that might save them is that panda colored AE86 sitting in a driveway, keys basically unattended. Takumi wants nothing to do with any of it. He knows every hairpin on this mountain the way other people know their own kitchen, but that is just delivery routes to him, not glory. Still, his friends push, and push hard, until he slides behind the wheel. Down the mountain he goes, into a race he never asked for. Can a kid who has never called himself a racer survive against men who live for it?
