Project D has crushed racing crews from one prefecture after another, and Takumi Fujiwara still hasn't lost a single run. Then comes the last stop: Kanagawa, and the team Sidewinder. Easy enough, right? Not quite. Waiting on the mountain is Shinji Inui, a 17 year old high schooler who has spent about ten years learning every curve of his home course, the Tsubaki Line. He drives an AE86. Same car as Takumi. At first Shinji couldn't care less about racing. Then he watches Keisuke Takahashi and Gou Houjou tear up the pass, and something clicks. Now the kid who never loses on his own turf wants a piece of the legend. Every racer Takumi has ever beaten shows up to watch, because this isn't just another race. It's Hachi-roku against Hachi-roku. Project D is one win from finishing the whole thing, but the final stage might be the one that breaks them. Can Takumi outdrive a version of himself who knows the road better than anyone alive?
