A week of strange attacks, all tied to stolen magatama. Sonsaku Hakufu and three friends start pulling at the thread. Every beaten fighter they find carries the same mark: a sword brim burned into the skin. Strangers from the west are behind it, or so the rumors say. Then the ground shifts. Kan'u Unchou, a special A-rank, goes out to scout the enemy and does not come back on top. She loses. Nobody can quite say how. Ekitoku runs the math out loud and hates the answer: only an S-rank fighter from Kansai could drop Kan like that. A quiet meetup at a nearby temple with Chouun Shiryuu and Kan is supposed to stop the bleeding. It does not feel like a rescue. It feels like bait. The group walks in anyway, because what else are they going to do. Bodies keep piling up, the marks keep spreading, and whoever is carving them has not shown a face yet. If Kan'u really fell, who in that temple is still standing when the doors close?
