They survived the past. Jiang Xiaobai and Tong Li are still editor and author, and now they share something softer too. Then the ground shifts. Tong Li's new novel gets torn apart by readers and critics, sales at Wen Zheng Magazine are sliding, and her serialization hangs by a thread. Meanwhile Jiang Xiaobai hears an old song in his head, remembers playing with friends back in high school, and picks up a bass to fill in for a local band that can't catch a break. She says nothing. Her family pushes in. The two of them drift further apart. Then one day she wanders into a welfare center for autistic people and stops cold: a young man who doesn't speak is playing piano, and it breaks her open. She starts volunteering there. What she doesn't know is how close his world already is to Jiang Xiaobai's. So what happens when she finally finds out?
