Jiang Xiaobai is two days away from passing his probation at a Chongqing literary magazine. He's already picked out the desk, already practicing how it will sound when people call him editor. Then a senior dumps an airport pickup on him as payback, and he ends up escorting Tong Li, a sharp-tongued author back from America to serialize her first novel in Chinese. She mocks his tie, his manners, everything. He's been handed her manuscript and her temper as punishment for someone else's screwup. Here's the thing. Tong Li keeps looking at him like she knows him. And she does. She's the girl from his high school days, the one he can't place because a traumatic event wiped ten years of his memory clean. The only trace left is a dream he keeps having, a girl whose face never comes into focus. Now she's sitting across from him at the office, unimpressed and waiting. He starts finding pieces. A photo, a name, a place he swears he's been. Every clue pulls him closer to a past someone clearly wanted him to forget. Tong Li isn't telling him everything either. What exactly happened between them, and why does she seem angrier that he forgot than relieved he came back?
