Yokosuka Girls' Marine High School throws its gates open and suddenly the whole harbor is crawling with girls from other maritime schools. Festivals, tournaments, crews shouting across the water at each other. Right in the middle of all that noise, two friends get pulled aside. Mashiro has been offered the chance to command the Hiei, a bigger ship, a real step up. Akeno is the captain she has sailed beside for ages. Neither of them says much at first. Then the alarms go off. Pirates have seized a water purification plant and a sea fortress, and now the whole coastline is holding its breath. No time to sort out feelings. Akeno and Mashiro have to take the Harekaze out and fight, with the one thing they have not talked about sitting between them the entire time. A hundred years ago the sea swallowed most of Japan, and the port cities that survived grew up around the water. Protecting it became a job, and for girls like these, the Blue Mermaids became the dream. Now the dream has teeth. Can Mashiro lead her own crew and still stand next to Akeno when the shooting starts?
