A puppy the size of a house wanders past tiny people who don't look up. That's just one of the shorts here. This is the second batch of Genius Party films, the ones that didn't make the first cut, from animators who worked on Samurai Champloo, Evangelion and Akira. Five stories, no shared plot, each one its own little world. One short drops you into a city where the government decides what you're allowed to want. Another follows a pair of kids on a joyride that goes somewhere strange. There's a thief, a secret laboratory, a bomb that might be a dimension. And somewhere in the middle of it all, a man has to sit down with the ugliest parts of himself and figure out what to do with them. The styles don't match on purpose. Some segments are hand-drawn and soft, others are harsh digital noise set to music that pounds. So what happens when your darkest impulse is the only thing keeping you alive?
