Li Yuesu is just a drifter out in the black, poking around old wreckage, when he stumbles onto the Shangjia. The immigrant ship vanished years ago. Everyone assumed it was gone for good. Now it's right there in front of him, and something inside it is very, very wrong. What he sees out there in the dark changes everything, because the danger isn't staying put. It's heading straight for humanity. At first nobody in the Cornel star region wants to hear it. Old grudges, separate agendas, the usual. Then the alien race shows up, and suddenly all that squabbling looks ridiculous. They join forces. It doesn't matter. The enemy hits harder than anyone imagined, and the human colonies in Cornel are torn apart, wiped out one by one. So they pin their last hope on the one person who was there at the beginning. Li Yuesu has to cross the galaxy to reach the powerful human civilization at its core and beg for help. That's a long way to travel with extinction on your heels. Will anyone at the center even believe what he's carrying?
