In the old capital of Tokyo, a town most people have forgotten, crimes keep happening that nobody can explain. Doors lock from the inside. Shadows move where there is nothing to cast them. The locals have stopped going out after dark, and the police have quietly given up on answers that make sense. That is where Mayuki Hyuga comes in. He is a kid, still young enough that grown-ups wave him off, but he sees things other people cannot. A kind of insight that cuts straight through the lie and lands on the truth underneath. Then the cases stop looking random. Something is behind them, something patient, and it is not afraid of a boy with a gift. Mayuki starts pulling at threads that were meant to stay buried, and the town pushes back hard. Every new crime drags him closer to a presence that has been waiting in the shadows long before he was born. He can see the truth. But can he survive what is watching him see it?
