Gunma Akagi tears up the countryside with a turbocharged tractor, mostly to embarrass his father, a local bigwig who wants the family to look respectable while he climbs the political ladder. Then two brothers come home from America, dad goes for a bigger office, and the family kicks Gunma out. Sent to Tokyo. No plan. Except now he has one. On a highway run with his buddy Tamotsu, some pro racer blows past him. Gunma takes it as a challenge, floors it, and loses so badly it stings. Worse: the guy pulls over and lectures him about it. Who does this jerk think he is? That night the goal locks in. Gunma is going to make it to the top of motorsport and prove the guy wrong on a real track, with a real car, in front of everyone. One problem. His temper. He has to pass a basic driving test before anything else, and even that looks doubtful. Then there is the money for a race car, and the small matter of talking his best friend, a mechanic with genius hands, into leaving the village too. Can a hothead who has never finished anything actually stick with this long enough to line up on a starting grid?
