A boy in a quiet village gets pulled from danger by the Hell Hunters, Ember City's elite squad, and that one rescue sticks with him. He swears he'll wear the same badge someday. So he gets on a bus, headed straight for the city and the trial that could make it real. Then the trip goes sideways. Lucifer has already slipped a bioengineered operative named MIKO-Taiyi into Ember City to steal classified data, and when Taiyi clashes with the Hell Hunters, the fight leaves Taiyi badly hurt and unconscious. Yeyu finds the body, has no idea who it is, and does the decent thing: drags Taiyi back to the Hunters' own base for medical help. Somewhere in all that, he also picks up a device Taiyi needs for the mission. Now Taiyi has to sneak close to the kid and take it back without Ember City catching on, while Lucifer floods the streets with thousands of searchers hunting the missing operative. One small kindness, one city about to tear itself apart. Can Yeyu pass his trial before he learns whose life he just saved?
