Thousands of years from now, Eden 3 is a clean, orderly city where robots go about their work and nobody asks questions. The humans who built it are long gone. Just a story the machines tell, if they bother at all. Two farming robots are out on an ordinary assignment when they stumble onto something that shouldn't exist: a baby girl, asleep in stasis, human, breathing. That one discovery cracks everything open. Humans were supposed to be a forbidden myth, a warning from the old days, nothing more. Now these two have a living child on their hands, and the city they serve would never allow it. So they do the only thing they can think of. They hide her, raise her in a quiet refuge far beyond Eden's walls, and try to keep her safe from a world that has already decided her kind never existed. But a child grows, and secrets like this don't stay buried forever. How long can two robots keep a human girl hidden from the very civilization that outlawed her?
