Somewhere below, human thoughts have gotten greasy and sour, and that smell drifts all the way down to Hell. Monsters catch a whiff and can't help themselves. They slip through the gate, break the one rule that matters, and start hunting human souls for sport. Then a kid named Tsutomu is walking home from Yokai Elementary when one of them jumps him. Sharp claws, no warning, nowhere to run. What saves him is a boy his own age with fire in his blood: Enma-kun, the son of the underworld's own judge, who shows up with Yukiko, a snow woman, and Kapaeru, and the three of them haul the monster off him like it's a schoolyard scuffle. They call themselves the Monster Patrol, sent upstairs to drag the rule breakers back down. Which sounds simple until you notice the actual problem. The monsters are only here because people's minds have gone rotten enough to call them. So what do you do when the place you're protecting is the thing luring them in?
