Crossing Time
A red signal starts blinking. The barrier comes down with a clang, and suddenly you are stuck. Same crossing, same morning, same wait while a train rumbles past. Only this time the person standing next to you is someone you never expected to see. That is the whole trick of this show. Every episode drops you at the same railroad crossing and lets two people talk while the train rolls by. Old friends run into each other. Total strangers strike up a conversation about nothing. Somebody finally says the thing they have been holding in for years. The odd part is that nobody planned any of it. They are just killing time, watching the train go by, and somehow that turns into the most honest conversation of their day. The girls waiting at that barrier keep coming back, and so do the people around them, each stuck for those few minutes with nothing to do but talk. Sometimes it is funny. Sometimes it stings. A train passes, the barrier lifts, and everyone walks off like nothing happened. So what exactly do you say to a person when the only thing holding you there is a train you cannot stop?
