The True Cross Academy festival only happens once every eleven years, and everyone is pitching in to clear out demons before the big night. Rin gets assigned with Yukio and Shiemi to take down the Phantom Train, a soul-devouring demon that has been eating its way through the area. Should be simple enough. Then the train tears off its tracks and starts smashing through the academy instead, and in the middle of all that wreckage something else gets loose, a demon that has been sealed away for a very long time and doesn't even have a name. Rin finds it, and it looks like a kid. He calls it Usamaro, and against every rule he has ever been taught, he starts hanging around it. Keeping it secret, even. But the things Usamaro can do do not feel harmless at all, and the more Rin gets attached, the less he wants to ask what it actually is. When the destruction it caused starts pointing back to something much older than the festival itself, who is going to be the one to deal with it?
