Across the river of the dead sits a place where night never ends. Ghost messengers run it, and their job is simple: keep the balance. Someone dies in the human world, someone goes to fetch them. Xiaohei and Xiaobai are the lowest of the low, two messengers nobody bothers to remember. Then everything tilts. Whatever went down inside the One Hundred Ghost Great Seal left the two of them barely speaking, and it is not just awkwardness. Xiaobai is hiding something, and the truth about who he really is starts pushing its way out. So now they still have to work side by side, dragging souls across while the silence between them gets heavier. Xiaohei wants answers. Xiaobai keeps not giving them. How long can you keep collecting the dead when the person next to you might not be who you think he is?
