The school trip ends with four girls washed up on a scrap of sand in the middle of nowhere. Shion, Asuka and Mutsu are crying, clinging to each other, already planning their funerals. Homare is checking the tide. Odd reaction, right? Turns out she has done this before, many times, because her father dragged her around the world climbing cliffs and setting traps instead of letting her have a normal childhood. Now that training kicks in, and she starts teaching her friends how to drink fish blood, crack open a cicada, and get real nutrition out of parts of a moose nobody wants to think about. They gag. They complain. They slowly get the hang of it. The real problem is not hunger or storms. It is that Homare is a little too comfortable out here, and the others start wondering how long rescue would even take. Then something shifts: the island stops feeling like a death sentence and starts feeling like home. Will anyone actually want to leave when a boat finally shows up?
