Office lights off. Bag dumped by the door. Wakako Murasaki, twenty six, walks straight back out into the night, alone, hungry, and entirely unbothered by it. She knows exactly where she is going: some bar stool, some counter seat, somewhere with a cold glass waiting. Then the first sip hits. Her whole face changes. The right drink with the right plate is not a small thing to her, it is the entire point of the evening, and she takes the hunt for that combination dead seriously. Grilled skewers. Something salty. A beer that cuts through it. Season after season, mood after mood, the orders shift, but the ritual never does, and she never once wishes she had company. So why does she always sit there, perfectly content, with nobody across from her?
