Long before anything lived, they were already there. Creatures that look like nothing else, that some call life itself, and people learned to fear them and named them Mushi. They don't mean harm. That's the problem. You can't see them, can't predict them, and just by living your life you can stumble into their world and lose your sight, your memories, or years off your life without ever knowing why. So there are the Mushishi, masters who understand the Mushi and try to keep the two sides from destroying each other. One of them is Ginko. A quiet man with white hair and a cigarette between his fingers, always walking somewhere, rarely staying long. Unlike other Mushishi he refuses to meddle unless he has to. He watches. He listens. Then a village boy starts hearing voices from the mountains, a girl can't stop walking toward the sea, and Ginko has to choose: fix what he can, or leave the Mushi alone the way he believes he should. Every person he meets is already tangled up with something invisible, and half of them don't even know it yet. He keeps wandering, keeps asking the questions that have followed him since childhood. But if the answers cost someone their life, does he even have the right to look for them?
