Subaru Mikazuki writes mysteries for a living, but the only company he keeps is a stack of books in a silent apartment. His parents died years ago. He never learned to lean on anyone, and he never had to take care of another living thing. Then he visits their grave, and a small grey and white stray wanders up to him. Haru has spent her whole life fighting for scraps, so a warm room and endless food feel like a miracle. There is just one problem: the man who feeds her can barely feed himself. She watches him skip meals, forget to clean, and talk to no one for days. Two loners, one apartment. She wants to repay him, he does not know how to let anyone close, and neither of them has the faintest idea how to live with somebody else. Who is really taking care of whom in that little room?
