The Azatos Empire has consumed countless worlds, and Chief Investigator Liza Luna has personally signed off on most of them. One look at Earth through the survey ship's viewport and she's already writing it off. The civilization is a joke, the technology is embarrassing, and the planet offers nothing but resources to strip. Eradicate everything, keep the minerals, move on. Standard procedure. Then she goes down to the surface to poke around first. Coffee. That's what leads her into a cat cafe, and that's where the whole plan falls apart. Because sitting in that room is a creature softer and rounder and more ridiculous than anything the empire has catalogued in a thousand star systems. A cat. Liza, professional annihilator of worlds, is instantly useless. She stays. Officially it's a survey. Really she just wants to find more of these things, and Earth turns out to be crawling with them: fluffy ones, tiny ones, ones that fall asleep in boxes. The invasion is on hold indefinitely. But an empire doesn't forget a scheduled conquest, and Liza's superiors back home are waiting for her report. What exactly is she planning to tell them?
