The wars are over. The forests swallowed everything. And people? People can't get near an open flame anymore. One spark and they go up like paper. So they hunt monsters deep in the woods instead, cutting fire stones out of their bodies. That job has a name: fire hunter. Touko is just a village girl when one of them dies saving her life. His dog survives. So her family packs her off to the capital to return the animal and the dead man's sickle to his relatives. Meanwhile, a boy named Koushi, the hunter's son, gets taken in by a rich family and starts poking around in things he shouldn't. What he finds about the royal family is bad. What he finds in his father's old fire stone is worse. Now the people running the country and the people trying to keep everyone alive are racing for the same thing, and neither side is playing fair. Two kids who never should have met, a dog, and a stone that could decide everything. Who gets to it first?
