The Neuroi came out of nowhere in 1939 and burned most of the world down. Whatever survived is barely holding on. Bullets bounce off the alien armor, tanks are useless, and the brass has run out of ideas. So they build something else: the Striker Unit, a machine that fuses science with magic and only works for young girls. That's how the Witches are born, an international squadron of them at the front, and nobody asks what happens to a kid who burns out her own power midair. Then there's Yoshika Miyafuji. She doesn't want to fight. She wants to heal people, like her mother and grandmother before her, and she has the family magic for it. The scientist who invented the Striker Units was her father. He died before he could see what he'd made. One day everything in her quiet life flips, and instead of bandaging wounds she's packing for training to become a Strike Witch, because there's no one else left to send. The 501st takes anyone who can fly and shoot, but the Neuroi keep coming, bigger each time, and nobody knows who is really behind them. Can a girl who only ever wanted to heal learn to pull the trigger before the sky over her home goes dark?
