The third son of an emperor, born with tangled meridians that refuse to hold energy. No internal arts for him, ever. While his older brothers train and shine, Qin Yu keeps to a quiet house with Grandfather Lian, who hands him a strange little bird to lift his spirits. He calls it Xiao Hei. Then he decides to prove he is worth something to his father anyway. Zhao Yunxing drills him through brutal external training, knuckles and bone instead of qi, and one day, resting between rounds, Qin Yu finds a red crystal. It sinks into his skin on its own. Something inside him changes, quietly, and the boy everyone wrote off starts to become something else entirely. On a planet split between humans, demons, celestials and darker things, he walks out with Xiao Hei on his shoulder and his father's approval still out of reach. What exactly did that crystal wake up inside him, and who will notice first?
