In the Northern Spiritual World, two territories grind against each other. Liu Jingtian runs one of them and keeps his real plans buried, though whatever he is building toward will cost everyone else plenty. Mu Chen is young, heir to the Mu Territory, and when he meets Luo Li on the Spiritual Road he falls hard. Then the road spits him out. The Blood Calamity drives him away, and the promise he makes to her has to carry him instead: they will meet again at the Five Great Academies, no matter what stands between now and then. So he walks into a fight he did not pick, carrying his territory's future on one shoulder and a girl's name on the other. The Heavenly Sovereigns keep rising from the Lower Planes. The Northern Spiritual World has thousands of graves in it, and an Immortal Lord sits on top of all of them. Mu Chen is just a boy on the back of a bird, flying into a world with many faces, and he wants to be the one who decides how his own story ends. Can he keep a promise that big and still come out alive?
