Two thousand years before the story begins, humanity nearly died when the Others invaded. The threat was stopped, but it left behind a strange anomaly called the Extinction Belt, and in the centuries that followed, science raced ahead. The big discovery: a psionic hormone that gives people extrasensory powers. Great news, except the Belt keeps dropping crazed mutants onto Earth, and those mutants want one thing, human brains. Bullets do nothing to them, so the government created the Other Suppression Force, and children with strong psionic talent get raised as soldiers from an early age. Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall graduate from the academy and report for duty in the regular unit. Yuito has his own reason for signing up: when he was five, an OSF woman pulled him out of danger, and he has been chasing that debt ever since. Then he meets his new squad, and one of his teammates looks exactly like the woman who saved him. That is strange enough on its own. What he cannot see yet is the conspiracy forming around him, one big enough to bring the whole country down. Why does his teammate wear the face of the person he has never stopped looking for?
