Ryouma Sakamoto drags an electric guitar through the streets of Bakumatsu-era Japan, stopping strangers to prove he can play just as hard as the Shinsengumi idols everyone worships. There's a catch. The shogunate has outlawed every song except their Heaven's Songs, and those syrupy brainwashing anthems are how the Tokugawa regime keeps the whole country docile. Write your own tune, hum the wrong melody, and you're looking at a death sentence. Ryouma doesn't care. He strums louder. So he rounds up Shinsaku Takasugi and Kogoru Katsura, and the three of them start hunting for anywhere they can plug in and play, dodging the law with every chord. What begins as one guy's stubborn love of rock turns into something bigger: a fight for the right to make noise, to think, to be free. They keep telling themselves it's just about the music. Is it, though, or have they already picked a side in a war they can't win?
