Nikola tends the inn in a tiny village on Clayborne Island, and that's the whole of her world. Then mountain dragons show up, and she's seconds from being torn apart when a man named Haga jumps out of the bushes and saves her. He says he studies everything in the Kingdom, and soon she learns he belongs to the Royal Seekers, an elite crew the King sends around to figure out where strange objects and odd events come from. She begs to tag along as his apprentice. Here's the thing. Haga isn't a scholar at all. He's a beta tester stuck inside a VR game, and Nikola is an NPC who was never supposed to matter. Neither of them says a word about the secrets they're sitting on. So off they go together, one clueless village girl and one guy who knows the world is fake but can't explain that to the person standing next to him. What happens when the lines of her code start showing?
