A fossil of the Mythical Pokémon Mew ends up in the hands of researchers, and they do what researchers do: they poke at it until something comes out. What comes out is Mewtwo, a Legendary born in a lab, built from the start as a weapon. Then the weapon starts asking questions. Where did I come from? Who decided what I am for? The answers don't sit well, and the resentment curdles fast. So Mewtwo turns on its makers. Ash, Pikachu and their friends are just trying to get through the day when they land smack in the middle of the rampage, with the whole Pokémon world hanging on what happens next. Ash has faced tough opponents before. This one was designed to end him. Can he and Pikachu stand their ground against a creature that never asked to exist, and can Mewtwo find something to live for beyond the revenge it was born into?
